Asus has launched 2 variants of Zenfone 3 Max. The one with 5.5 inch display screen and the other one has 5.2 inch screen. The model number of Zenfone 3 Max which has 5.5 inch screen is ZC553KL. The new Zenfone 3 series smartphones biggest change compared to its predecessors is aesthetics and price. Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL is no exception to it. The design and build quality has been improved a lot. The new metal unibody design with 2.5D curved glass in the front gives a premium feel to the device. It is comparatively slimmer and lighter. The bezels too reduced. Overall it gives a good in hand experience.
Key USP of Zenfone 3 Max is its battery. It houses a 4130 mAh battery with reverse charging feature. It does provides good battery life. However, compared to previous Zenfone Max, battery capacity has been reduced to make the device slimmer and lighter. The much needed fast charging feature also not available on this device.
Asus Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL is powered by 1.25GHz quad core Mediatek MT6737M(Cortex-A53) SoC with 3GB of RAM and Mali-T720MP2 GPU. It has 32GB of internal storage and optional expandable storage through microSD card. The performance of the device for the price is not satisfactory. There was a noticeable lag while playing even a basic games. The general day to day performance too not as snappy as other smartphones in this price segment.
Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL sports 5.2 inch 720p HD display screen. The colour saturation, viewing angles, sunlight legibility are decent. Though the quality of display panel is good, it would have been better if it had full HD screen resolution. The smartphones such as Honor 5C, Redmi Note 3 etc has full HD display screen and they are priced lesser than this device.
When we did review of Zenfone Max, we were happy with the camera performance. The new Zenfone 3 Max features 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 5MP front facing camera. It lacks Laser autofocus, Dual LED flash which were available in its predecessor. Camera performance in good lit conditions came out decent. However, low light performance is just average.
Asus Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL Review summary: Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL has improved a lot in terms of design and build quality. But in all other segments, it took one step backwards. Being priced at Rs.12,999, we felt it is not a value for money device. The devices like Honor 5c, Redmi Note 3 provides better value for money.
