Yu Yuphoria is the second smartphone from the YU Televentures which is the subsidiary of Micromax. Yu Yuphoria is a compact and less pricier than the Yu Yureka. It will compete with the likes of Moto 2 4G 2nd gen, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 plus etc. The Yu Yuphoria price in India is Rs.6999 and available exclusively on Amazon via flash sales.
Yu Yuphoria is sports 5 inch IPS display screen which comes with laminated glass coating. The screen has a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and pixel density of 294 ppi. There is also Corning Glass 3 to protect the screen from scratches and smudges. The display is sharp. The viewing angles are decent. However, there is slight color shift when you change the viewing angles horizontally. It is also observed that, the screen’s color temperature is skewed towards the warmer side and whites have pink tint. The sunlight legibility is good if you increase the brightness level. But auto brightness is not great.
Yu Yuphoria is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 system on chip which has a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core processor with Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. This same chipset used in Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 and Moto E 4G 2nd Gen. The device has 16GB of internal storage in that 11.8GB is available for users. Yu Yuphoria runs on Cyanogen Mod 12 ROM which is based on Android 5.0 platform. Out of the box device supports screen recording. You record your on screen navigation with recording registering where you’ve touched the screen as well. This feature is called Screencast.
Yu Yuphoria is a dual sim phone. The first sim has 4G LTE TDD 2300MHz and FDD 1800MHz bands support and the second sim can take 2G or 3G. The connectivity features of the device are 3G, 4G (CAT 4, including TDD-LTE, Indian 4G bands, both sim card slots), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Cellular call quality and network reception are acceptable. However, WiFi signal reception is bit weak. Also the GPS encountered few issues in the test.
Yu Yuphoria houses 8MP rear primary camera with OmniVision OV8865 sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. There is also a 5MP front facing camera. The primary camera has autofocus and secondary camera is fixed focus. The dayshots are good but low light shots are just ok. 8MP camera takes 4:3 ratio photos whereas for a taking wide angle photos, it drops to 2MP. The front facing camera is decent for the price. The device comes with user replaceable 2230mAh battery. The battery has quick charging features and battery life is satisfactory.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Yu Yuphoria
Pros of Yu Yuphoria
Decent Battery life: With normal use, battery lasts for a day. It comes with fast charging features which is very handy. This is the only device which has fast charging feature in this price tag.
Good performance: Overall performance of the device is decent.
Sound quality and loudness: The quality of sound, the built in speaker produces is good and also the loudness decent.
Decent Camera: The primary and secondary camera performance is decent. Though there is lack of quality in recording the video as well as low light performance, considering the price, it is ok.
Value for money: For the price, the device is good. Though there are few improvement areas, it is decent performer.
Cons of Yu Yuphoria
Issues with Proximity sensor: It may be a software glitch. Some of the issues observed are when making calls, device screen is not switching off, or trouble while disconnecting the calls etc. Hopefully with future software update, it might get fixed.
Lag in Dialer: This is once again a Cyanogen OS issue. There is a lag observed when the dialer is used. Also while typing messages fast, there is a skipping of words.
No USB OTG support: This device does not support USB OTG
No LED notification light:
Camera could have been better: As mentioned above, video recording on both camera are not upto expectations.
