Camera is one of the major deciding factor for purchasing a new smartphone for many. In recent times most of the manufacturers are focussing more on the camera performance. Entry of Honor 8 with dual camera just like Huawei P9, intensified the competition in the race of best camera smartphone in the  sub 30k price segment. Honor 8 stand apart with its glass and metal unibody design. Though the back panel is fingerprint magnet, when kept clean looks beautiful. The compact size with 2.5D curved glass in the both sides makes it easy for one handed use. Overall design and build quality of this device is impressive.

Honor 8 comes with 5.2 inch IPS display panel with full HD screen resolution. Viewing angle, colour saturation and accuracy , sunlight legibility are good. There is a option to adjust the colour temperature and toggle blue light filter in the settings menu.

As mentioned before, one of the key USP of Honor 8 is its camera. It sport 12MP dual rear camera and 8MP front facing camera. The dual camera setup consists of individual 12MP  colour and monochrome sensors. The rear camera has aperture of f/2.2 and front facing camera has aperture of f/2.4.  Camera modes such as HDR, Panorama, slow motion, light painting, Time-lapse, Beauty mode etc are also available. There is PRO mode for both still photography and video which provides manual controls.  The device also has the option called ‘Wide aperture’ mode which makes possible to adjust the background blur with a slider.

Honor 8 rear camera performance on still photography is good in well lit conditions and in artificial lighting condition. The photos taken had decent details with minimum noise. In low light photos comes with little noise and detail level is slightly less. Video recording on this device is restricted to 1080p 60 fps. 8MP front facing camera does take decent photos in well lit conditions.

Honor 8 is powered by 64 bit Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is a option to add microSD card upto 128GB. The performance of device is good. In our review period it was able to play high end games without any overheating issues. The general performance was also very good.  Honor 8 houses Li-ion 3000 mAh battery with support for fast charging.

  • There is no VoLTE.
  • No 4K video recording option.
  • Lacks optical image stabilisation.
  • Battery life could have been better.
