  • Xiaomi Mi A2 Cons – Top 5 not so impressive features

Mi A1 was the first smartphone from Xiaomi which provided vanilla Android experience under the Android One program. Mi A2 being the successor comes with many improvements over its predecessor. Latest and more powerful processor, improved camera, modern-day 5.99-inch full-HD+ 18:9 display are the key highlight of the device. It is a good value for money device. However, there are few things which we felt could have been better. So here is the list of Xiaomi Mi A2 Cons or demerits.

    Display Brightness

Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with 5.99-inch full-HD+ display screen with  2160x1080p resolution and 403ppi pixel density. The viewing angles are decent. But when it comes to brightness it disappoints a bit. In outdoor conditions, the legibility on the screen takes a hit. Also, the color accuracy is not great.  Both these demerits may be fixed through software updates in the coming days.

    3.5mm headphone jack

One of our favorite feature on Mi A1 was quality audio output via the headphone jack. Unfortunately, Xiaomi decided to omit the 3.5mm headphone jack on Mi A2.  There is a USB Type-C dongle in the box. But carrying an additional dongle along with device all the time is not so convenient.

    Battery Life

Xiaomi Mi A2 sports 3000 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+. The battery capacity is less compared to the competition and charger which comes with the device is not a fast charger.

    Lack of microSD card support

Mi A2 is currently available in India with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. 6GB RAM variant will be coming in the future. In this price segment, most of the smartphones do come with dedicate or hybrid microSD card slot. Mi A2 does not support expandable storage via microSD card.

    Availability

It is becoming a trend to sell the smartphone in flash sale. Mi A2 continues to follow the same way as most of the other Xiaomi phones. The sale happens once in a week at 12 PM. The first sale happened on 16th August and units got sold out fast due to the limited number of units. Next Mi A2 flash sale happens on 23rd August. Unless you are really quick in hitting the buy button, it will be difficult to buy one for yourself.

In my view, these are the main Xiaomi Mi A2 Cons or disadvantages which users might not appreciate.

  • Redmi Note 5 Pro Cons – Top 5 reasons not to buy

Redmi Note 5 Pro has all the qualities to break the records of Xiaomi’s previous best-selling smartphone Redmi Note 4. It has most of the features which consumers look out in a smartphone of 2018. Brand new Snapdragon 636 chipset, thin bezel 18:9 display, rear dual camera setup, 20MP front-facing camera and 64GB of internal storage are some of the key features to name few. The list may grow further if we list out all the good thing about this.smartphone. Instead, we thought of listing only Redmi Note 5 Pro Cons.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro

Redmi Note 5 Pro Cons – Top 5 reasons not to buy

    1. Lacks 4K video recording

The camera is one of the segments where Xiaomi has done a lot of improvement in Redmi Note 5 pro over Redmi Note 4. However, there are two disappointments for the users. First one is lack of 4K video recording and the second one is the absence of optical image stabilization.

    2. No Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Android N(7.0) out of the box. Missing latest Android version on a smartphone which is launched after 6 months of the public launch of Android Oreo is not a great move.

    3. Fast charger not included in the box

Redmi Note 5 pro supports some of the fast chargers and not all. Even the SoC used on the device has support for fast charging. However, it is sad to see no compatible fast charger in the box.

    4. No dedicated microSD card support

Both the variants of Redmi Note 5 Pro which is launched in India has 64GB of internal storage. It is more than enough for most of the users. But, dedicated microSD card slot would have been better.

    5. Difficulty of purchasing

Now Xiaomi smartphones are available via an open sale. However, if you are planning to buy one for yourself, you should be very quick to grab one. The units will get sold out in few seconds.  It is unfortunate that Xiaomi is not able to provide enough number of devices to market.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review- Pros and Cons

When it comes to sub 10k smartphone segment, Xiaomi smartphones are the front-runners. The smartphones like Redmi 5A, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note 4 all were well received by the customers. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is the new entrant in the segment with the main focus on Selfie enthusiasts. Here is the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 review based on pros and cons.

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review- Pros and Cons

We will be splitting the review into two parts namely pros or advantages and cons or disadvantages.  Let’s start pros or good things about the Redmi Y1.

    Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Pros

    • Dedicated microSD card slot:  As more and more smartphones started coming with the metal unibody design, dedicated sim card slot became a rarity.  On a positive note, Redmi Y1 does features dedicated microSD card.
    • Decent display panel: Redmi Y1 sports 5.5 inch 720p IPS LCD screen with around 269 PPI pixel density.  The display viewing angles, saturation levels, and sunlight legibility were decent.  For the price, the display provides the justice according to us.
    • Performance:  Redmi Y1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 505. The day to day uses like opening apps, switching between the apps were smooth. Gaming on this device is decent for the most part. Having said that, opening heavy gaming takes a while and animations were not smooth.
    • Cellular call quality and network reception: In our testing period, We were happy with call quality and signal reception of Redmi Y1.

    Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Cons

Here are the things which we felt as cons of Redmi Y1.

    • Battery life: Redmi Y1 comes with 3080 mAh battery.  Compared to other Redmi phones like Redmi 4, 4A or Note 4, battery life is less.  It easily lasts a for a working day. However, it is not up to the standards of other Redmi phones.
    • Selfie camera: 16MP f/2.0 wide-angle front camera with selfie flash on Redmi Y1 suppose to take good selfies. However, in our usage, we were disappointed. Especially in the low light, it struggles in focusing and noise level were on the higher side.
    • Design: Redmi Y1 comes with the plastic body with the metallic finish.  For the price, we feel it would have been great if it had metal unibody.

Redmi Y1 will be competing with the likes of Redmi Note 4, Zenfone 4 Selfie and Lenovo K6 power.  To summarize  Xiaomi Redmi Y1 review, it is a decent phone for the price. But it slightly disappoints in battery and camera segments.
