  • Galaxy M40 Cons- 4 Reasons not to buy

    Samsung Galaxy M40 is the fourth smartphone from Galaxy M series. Like Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30, Galaxy M40 too packs many amazing features for a budget Android phone. However, it has few demerits or features which user may not like it. Here is the list of Galaxy M40 cons based on our review.

    Galaxy M40 Cons

    LCD display panel instead of Super AMOLED screen

    Galaxy M40 comes with 6.3-inch LCD FHD+ display and Widevine L1 certification. It provides excellent sharpness with clear text and videos. However, blacks are not as deep as AMOLED display. The OneUI systemwide night mode on Galaxy M30 or Galaxy A50 looks fantastic because of the AMOLED screen. Also the color preset options are available for AMOLED screen and currently not available for LCD panels from Samsung Galaxy phones.

    3500 mAh battery

    Galaxy M30 and Galaxy M20 had 5000 mAh battery. Even Galaxy A50 has 4000 mAh battery. Whereas Galaxy M40 has 3500 mAh battery. It lacks the advantage of having higher capacity battery which other M series phone had.

    There is no 3.5mm headphone jack

    If you have good quality earphone or headphones which are compatible with 3.5mm headphone jack, then either you need to buy new one or buy a adaptor. However, Samsung bundles USB-C earphone in the box.

    Hybrid SIM card slot

    This is another feature which is disappointing compared to other Galaxy M series phone or Galaxy A50. There is no dedicated microSD card slot.

    Samsung Galaxy M40 is a good phone for the price. It has many unique features for the price segment. However, there are few features omitted compared to previous Galaxy M series phones. We feel Galaxy A50 offers better value considering these Galaxy M40 cons.

    Samsung Galaxy A50 is selling at ₹18,490 for the base variant. Galaxy M40 is launched at a price tag of ₹19,990. After the price cut, Galaxy A50 looks more attractive deal. Having said that, Galaxy M40 brings many new features which are first for a sub 20k smartphone from Samsung. Which one to choose between these two.     • Galaxy A50: Triple camera setup at back. 25MP f/1.7 aperture, 8MP ultra wide-angle lens and 5MP depth sensor. 25MP selfie camera.
    • Galaxy M40: Triple camera setup at back. 8MP ultra wide-angle lens and 5MP depth sensor. 16MP selfie camera.

    Galaxy A50 advantages over Galaxy M40

    • Bigger battery capacity.
    • Super AMOLED screen.
    • In display finger print scanner.
    • 3.5mm headphone jack

    Full-HD+ Infinity-O Display

    Samsung Galaxy M40 sports 6.3 inch FHD+ LCD display with a small circular cutout on the display for front camera. This is the first phone from from Galaxy M series to feature Infinity-O Display and also the most affordable phone with Infinity-O Display. The minimal bezels around the screen provides good body to screen ratio. Hence, in spite of having a large screen, phone feels compact in hand.

    Snapdragon 675 processor

    Galaxy M40 is powered by Snapdragon 675 processor. This is the first Galaxy M series phone to be powered by Snapdragon SoC. The device runs on Android 9 Pie with OneUI. System-wide Night mode, redesigned user interface with an emphasis on one-handed use and new gesture navigation features are available.

    6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage

    The new Galaxy M series phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also supports microSD card upto 512GB.

    Triple Camera Setup

    One of the cons of Galaxy M30 was its camera. Samsung tried to fix it in Galaxy M40 with new set of 3 camera. It has 32 MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 123-degree FoV, and a 5MP depth sensor. For taking selfies, there is a 16MP front facing camera.

    Fingerprint scanner and Face unlock Feature

    Galaxy M40 houses rear mounted fingerprint scanner and has support for face unlock. Though in display fingerprint scanner are the latest technology, they are still in evolving stage.

    In summary Samsung Galaxy M40 has everything to become a ideal midrange smartphone. Powerful processor, Infinity-O Display , Triple camera setup, fast charging support and more importantly it is priced aggressively. We have to test it to know how it fares in real time usage.
