How to set Custom Ringtone in Moto G4 Plus

Moto G4 Plus is one of the recently launched popular Android smartphone. It runs on latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. It gives good user experience and performance. How to set custom ringtone in Moto G4 Plus

There are two ways through which you can set custom ringtone and notification in Moto G4 Plus. One through PC and another one using the file explorer app.

How to set custom ringtone in Moto G4 using PC without installing any apps

This is the simplest method to set the custom ringtone and notification in Moto G4 Plus

Connect your device to the PC/Laptop via USB cable.
In your device, access the notification area and tap on to “use USB for”. Select “File Transfer”.

Now from the PC/Laptop, browse to the Moto G4 Plus and go to device > Internal Storage > Ringtones.
Copy the MP3 songs or ringtones which you want to use.
Now in the device go to “Settings”->”Sound&notification”->”Phone Ringtone”.
You will find all the new ringtones which you have placed in the ringtone folder. Select the one which you would like to use.

2. How to set custom ringtone in Moto G4 Plus by using a File explorer without connecting to PC

For using this method, you need to download and install a third party File explorer app. There are many good file explorer apps available in the play store for free. I personally use ES file explorer. Once you install the File explorer,

Go to “Settings”->”Sound & notification”->”Phone Ringtone”.
You get a option to select between Media storage app or file explorer. Choose complete action using the ES file explorer.

Browse the folder, where you have saved the ringtone. Tap on to it. Ringtone will be set.

  As per my knowledge, there is no way to set ringtones for different sim cards. However, you can set different ringtone to different contacts.

Hello, I recently purchased moto g4 plus . but I m very disappointed with camera quality e.g. yelow tint. Gallery and music app is not there. For this google apps have to use compulsory. Contact pic is blurred during incoming calls. Also I can not set song ringtone for incoming calls. I don’t want that Google search bar on the home screen…could you please help out overcoming these problems. Previously I had used Samsung a7.

Nice info Aniruddh. Have a quick query though. How do I create groups in Contacts so that I can add individuals into this group and assign a ring tone, say a group for Family and a group for Friends and assign different ring tones for these 2 diff groups. Thanks in advance.

Hi Aniruddh, The ringtone folder is not available in many phones, even I have Moto G4 plus, and the ringtone folder is not there, I created a new folder and than tried these steps, still the phone ringtone cannot find the folder to read. Why the ringtones folder is not there in many phones please check and update on it.

  Yes. You can do that. Access the notification folder in your phone. Paste the notification tune which you want to use. Then you can select that tune.

A File Manager was not installed on my UK purchased Moto G4 as stated and I had to look elsewhere to find out how to install one. Also, it would have been helpful if you had said that it may be necessary to scroll up and down to find the ring tone that has been added. Mine ended up in the middle of the list and I thought I was doing something wrong because I could not see it, and it was only after watching your video a third time that I noticed that you were scrolling .

This is helpful. However, can you show how to change/ set ringtones for text messages. I couldn’t find a way to change message tones. And also, the notification for text messages on the drop down notification area is not available. How can we achieve all of these?
